A more integrated and lean approach may be the key to bringing manufacturing back.

MIT trained robotics engineer Jessica Banks produces kinetic furniture with RockPaperRobot. She is reluctant to call herself a manufacturer. 'A maker is more apt,' she says. If manufacturing has a bad connotation, 'there is usually a way to fix anything'.
